January 2014 Club Members

Welcome back to school from our Rights Respecting Club. We are all excited to be members of the club and can't wait to work hard again this term to promote the Rights of the Child. 

Our Award!

We have achieved our Rights Respecting School Level 1 Award! We are so proud of everyone in our school, they all supported us so much.

 "It was a wee bit tricky, but we worked really hard so it was easy for us!" said Devon P1. 

"It was easy when we got everybody in the club and school to help us in getting our award." Megan P5. 

Some children took Mrs McGraw on a tour around the school, telling her about the different things we do to promote our Rights. We spoke about lots of things and showed her displays. 

"I felt nervous but a little excited too!" Connor P2 

"I felt really nervous but then I just got on with it!" Emma P4 

A small group of children went to speak to Mrs McGraw. She had lots of questions for them.

 "I felt good about meeting Mrs McGraw because I answered all of her questions and got them right!" Nicole P2 

At the end of the day she came to visit all of the children in the club. We sang our Rights Respecting School song to her and she was very impressed! We played a game with posters and we had to choose our favourite poster and explain why. We then analysed the posters to identify which Rights were being met in each one. 

"When Mrs McGraw came to the club I felt happy for her because we worked so hard and had lots to show her." Aidan P2

Mrs McGraw met with a few of the parents of members of our club and asked them some questions too. 

Finally Mrs Coyle, Mrs Maxwell, Mrs Wieland and Mrs Sloan all met with her to hear the results if everything that had been she had seen that day. Obviously it was all very impressive as Mrs McGraw told us that we had exceed the criteria met to achieve our Level 1 Award! We are waiting for our official report to be approved by UNICEF and then we will share it with you! 

Well done everyone at Kirklandneuk Primary we are officially a Rights Respecting School! 

P3/4

Today Primary 3/4 were recaping the UNCRC. We worked in our co-op groups to decide on our most important rights and created an information cube. 

After that we went to PE and created our own dance sequences using moves we made up for 6 of our rights. We had a great afternoon! 

Rights Respecting Schools - Level 1 recognition

At Kirklandneuk Primary School we are currently working towards Level 1 recognition for our Rights Respecting Schools Award.

The Rights Respecting Schools Award (RRSA) recognises achievement by putting the United Nation Conventions on the Rights of a Child (CRC) at the heart of all of a school's planning, practice, policies and ethos.  A rights-respecting school not only teaches about children's rights but also models rights and respects in all relationships: between teachers/adults and pupils, between adults and between pupils.

Every Thursday 3-4pm Mrs Coyle and Mrs Maxwell run a Rights Respecting Schools Club for a range of pupils from P1-P7.  At this club pupils learn about rights and respecting others, CRC articles and lots about customs and traditions in other countries.  We also hold special meetings where we talk about how we can promote our rights in the school and our local community and we host fundraising events and assemblies for different charities.

Look for our special Rights Respecting Schools display outside Room 7.  There are also displays in the upper and infant breakout spaces showing us what rights we have.  Around the school we have displayed articles of the Rights of the Child that relate to us, see if you can spot them! 

In our school foyer our school charter is displayed and every class has their own class charter where the pupils have agreed to the rights that relate to their class.  All class charters are displayed in each classroom in an attractive and meaningful way.

On Thursday 9th January Kirklandneuk Primary are being assessed for Level 1 Recognition.  Outside assessors will be visiting our school to look at everything we have done to work towards our Rights Respecting Schools Award.  Good luck everyone!
